Not every SUV earns a second look in the car park. The 2022 MG HS Vibe has a habit of turning heads anyway — a confident stance, clean silver lines, and just enough presence to suggest you made a deliberate choice rather than a practical one.
Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. It moves through traffic with a lightness that belies its size — responsive when you need it, composed when you don’t. The FWD setup keeps things tidy in everyday conditions, and the steering feels connected enough to remind you that driving it is still supposed to be enjoyable.
Step inside and the cabin rewards you. Black leather wraps the seats with a firmness that holds up on longer runs, and the layout keeps everything within easy reach — touchscreen, climate controls, all of it. There is enough room in the second row for real adults, and the boot has swallowed a weekend away without complaint.
At 49,000 kilometres, it is well past the early ownership jitters and still well short of where you would start worrying. This is the sweet spot — depreciation already absorbed, plenty of road left ahead.
The Vibe trim sits at the accessible end of the HS range, but that is a feature as much as a footnote. No unnecessary complexity, no bewildering submenu to navigate before you can turn the heated seats on. Just the SUV, doing what SUVs are supposed to do, in a car park near Nunawading.
